About Us

Bulk & Tipper Torque is a quarterly industry title that provides essential news and technical articles on a wide range of key topics from across this wide-ranging sector. Giving readers the widest and most balanced view, the magazine features regular coverage of all aspects of the industry, everything from a heavy-duty eight-wheel tipper working in the toughest conditions, to a food-grade bulk powder tanker delivering to a bakery – all come within the remit of this exciting new publication.

Take a moment to contemplate the sheer diversity of this industry. Raw materials in powder and granular form for heavy industry and power generation, agricultural produce that feeds the nation, aggregates and other materials to build our roads, houses, factories and every construction project. Just a few of the regular cargoes transported by the bulk transport industry. At the other end of the spectrum, waste materials for recycling and re-use including scrap metal, plastics, green waste, glass, food by-products, even household electronic devices, will eventually be transported in bulk by tippers, walking floor, ejector and other specialist vehicles. These efforts of operators in this complex and wide-ranging industry quite literally keep the country going. Many of the advances in recycling would not be possible without an efficient and effective transport service.

Published by Nimble Publishing Ltd, written and produced by a dedicated team that has established a reputation for creating its innovative, technically accurate, eye-catching and high-quality sister magazine HeavyTorque. Both publications, Bulk & Tipper Torque and HeavyTorque, are aimed at specific sectors of the transport industry. They provide senior executives with targeted editorial, best practice guidelines and market trends that will help and assist operators in running more efficient and cost-effective businesses and assist them with future purchasing decisions.

As a news-based title, Bulk & Tipper Torque reports on developments in technology, innovation, legislation, R+D and any other topics that affect or challenge the industry. Our goal is to help the industry prepare for any change and take advantage of such developments as soon as they are able.

Kevin Swallow
Senior Editorial Journalist
Delivering goods has been in my blood since the age of 12 when I started a paper round. The goods and the mode of transport became bigger as I got older, and at 21 years old I got my class one. In 2000 journalism became my new career when I joined Commercial Motor. After a return to hauling freight for three years running a small haulage business I embarked on a career as a freelance journalist.
Jon Harle
Senior Editorial Journalist
Jon had a neat trick at school. He could predict the arrival of a Foden 8-wheeler on the road outside after hearing it pass under the railway bridge a mile away! He spent ten years with Pickfords Heavy Haulage before joining the BBC in 1986. He worked as a presenter with BBC Radio Newcastle for 25 years until his retirement in 2018, when he started a new career as a freelance writer, specializing in transport. He claims to be the only person in the world to have not only interviewed Prime Ministers, pop stars and Premier League footballers, but also to have travelled through the Dartford Tunnel in the steersman’s cab of a 300 ton 12-axled double swan neck girder trailer!
Steve Banner
Senior Editorial Journalist

Over the years he’s written for a wide variety of consumer, trade and technical publications and contributed to several leading national newspapers as well as edited both weekly and monthly magazines.
Chris Tindall
Senior Editorial Journalist
Chris started writing for the haulage and logistics industry 15 years ago and quickly realised there was enough going on to keep him busy and interested for a very long time. He’s covered a broad range of significant issues, including GPS jamming by criminals, platooning, the lack of safe and secure lorry parks and helped secure the release of a lorry driver in a Polish jail due to misuse of the European Arrest Warrant.
Margo Cole
