This year Volvo Trucks will again be attending Tip-Ex/Tank-Ex – the UK’s only national event for the tipper, tanker and bulk haulage industries – being held at the Harrogate Convention Centre in West Yorkshire from 30th May to 1st June 2019. In addition to showcasing its fully-integrated service for all sectors of the construction business, Volvo will be debuting its new factory-fitted Power Take Off (PTO) equipment on two FH Lite 6×2 tractor units.
This 6×2 Lite Pusher Axle variant is proving extremely popular with hauliers focusing on payload-conscious transport assignments with leading fuel economy figures. The two FH models on display will feature a Standard Sleeper Cab and the higher roofed Globetrotter option, with the latter carrying a twin hydraulic system for both tipper and walking floor trailer applications. Delivering a class-leading driver experience, the FH cabs both include Drive + trim, 1 Bed Living and Active Safety packages, complemented by a Media Pack with Navigation system.
Both FHs are powered by the latest Step D variant of Volvo’s D13K Euro-6 engine rated at 500hp, coupled to I-Shift automated gearboxes with long haul fuel economy software. Single reduction RSS1144A drive axles with a ratio of 2.64:1 round off the powertrain assemblies. The 4,000mm wheelbase chassis come with front parabolic spring and rear air suspension plus 550-litre fuel tanks and 64-litre AdBlue tanks. The vehicles also include payload boosting alloy wheels, fitted with Michelin X Line Energy tyres, Jost air operated, sliding fifth wheels and gel batteries.
Two Volvo FMX 8×4 rigid tippers will also be on display, both of which feature Volvo’s new Euro 6, Step D chassis layout. One example will have the rear low level exhaust outlet and the other will show the vertical outlet option.
Outside the halls, a stunning Gold Fleece metallic-coloured Volvo FH16-750 tractor unit will be displayed coupled to a matching Wilcox Tri-axle tipper trailer. The combination marks 100 years in business for Ernest Cooper Ltd. and will be used by them throughout the year raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support. The Globetrotter XL 6×2 unit’s high specification includes Volvo Dynamic Steering, I-Park Cool and Alcoa Dura-Bright EVO wheels, whilst the Wilcox 66 cubic yard taper frame tipper comes with Jost DCA axles, a Vishay weighing system and a Dawbarn Hydroclear automatic sheeting system.
Finally, Volvo Trucks will again be sponsoring the ‘Tipper Haulier of the Year’ title at the Tip-Ex Awards, which will take place in the Royal Hall, Harrogate on Friday 31st May 2019.
